Don’t have your hiking gear with you? No worries – we have a good selection of hiking gear available for hire at very reasonable rates – check it out on this page. Note that we need at least one week’s notice to prepare these items.

Comfortable hiking gear

Note that there are items we do not hire out, as these are generally difficult to match with individual persons, and would require us to keep a huge range in stock! They include clothing, footwear, swimming togs, personal toiletries and requirements, and personal medication – we do issue a checklist after receipt of a booking, which will show which items you must supply or bring yourself. If you do not have hiking boots or clothing with you, good, sturdy walking shoes (such as Hi-Tec or Reebok, etc, that you don’t mind getting wet or dirty!), gym shoes or trainers will suffice for the half and full day walks. However, if you have the time, The Warehouse has a good selection of walking/hiking shoes/boots at very reasonable prices. Other than that, clothing is your personal choice, but we recommend that you do not wear denims or cotton clothing, which has no insulation properties when wet (other than synthetics or wool, which retain their insulation properties).

Supplies

For snacks and meals included in the package, we have a selection for you to choose from (see below) – please indicate your preferences when booking. Regrettably we are unable to cater to kosher or halal requirements at this point, and would be happy to offer a discount if you would prefer to bring your own snacks and meals. We can, however, offer a vegetarian or gluten-free option if desired – please indicate this on the booking form. Tea, coffee and milk will be supplied by your guide.

The following items are included in your hike price – please indicate your preferences when booking. If you’d prefer to supply your own snacks and food, don’t hesitate to ask or enquire beforehand.

Half and Full Day Hikes (brunch/lunch) Overnight Hikes, per day
Backpack, suitable for half- & full day hikes, plus:
  • 2 small muesli bars, nut bars, or chocolate bars
  • instant coffee or tea, and milk powder
  • two sandwiches (see selection of fillings below), or one two-minute noodle bowl
  • one fruit – either an apple, orange, banana or two kiwifruit (in season)
Backpack, suitable for overnight & multi-day hikes, plus:
  • 1 small muesli bar, nut bar, or chocolate bar
  • instant coffee or tea, and milk powder
  • breakfast: cereal, muesli or oats
  • lunch: two sandwiches (see selection of fillings below), or one two-minute noodle bowl, or cheese & wholemeal crackers (we recommend sandwiches for the first day only)
  • dinner: dehydrated/freeze dried meal (see selection below)
  • one fruit per day – either apple, orange, banana or two kiwifruit (in season)
